Obviously the building supervisor is not the only position at the Gemini Center apart from the full-time staff. Without the front desk, the facility would not run properly. These women deal with the most issues on a daily basis. They take payments, answer questions about the facility, sign members up for programs, answer the phones, deal with the money, etc. There are some days where these employees deal with a lot and other days are slower than others. They are always calling the building supervisors to help them deal with issues as well.
Another part-time position is the fitness floor worker. These employees have arguably the easiest position in the building. They sit at the fitness desk and make sure that no one is abusing the equipment and staying safe. If needed, they wipe down the equipment, but the main aspect is doing laundry for the dirty towels and putting out new ones for the members to use. There is just one worker on the fitness floor per shift and essentially they are the ones that members talk to the most.
The maintenance staff, on the other hand, is arguably one of the most frustrating positions. There are many members who are respectful of the facility but also members who are not. They have to deal with the banquet rooms and moving tables and chairs in and out as requested, they pick up the garbage that the kids left in the gym and overall spend their nights cleaning the facility and others’ messes.
Those are the three positions that I deal with the most; however, there are many lifeguards and kids club employees. There are mostly high schoolers who watch over the pools or play with the kids. The last part-time positions are the group exercise instructors. I had no idea that being a group instructor could be like a full time job. Many instructors do not just teach at the recreation center, but they teach at other surrounding suburbs’ recreation centers as well. There are also so many group classes that I had never heard of and would love to try one day. There are at least three group classes every weeknight and even some for kids.
