So I could make this a very long post, but I will hopefully just hit the basics of what happened tonight. The event is an Arabic bridal shower that was going from about 5pm until midnight. When I went in to greet them, the first the bride did was ask for more tables and chairs. Once we got those for her, I had her sign the renter’s contract and explained that they needed to be out of the facility by midnight, nothing could be on the wall and no candles could be lit. She agreed and signed. Later in the evening, they asked for more tables and chairs. This is when I noticed that they were trying to hang items on the wall. I told her that they needed to take it down because it is against the rules. The bride got in my face and stated, “this is my party and those items are staying up on the wall.” When I tried to explain to her that she could not have them because it is against the rules and in the contract she had signed, she threatened to speak with the Director. As I continued to tell her that it needed to be taken down, a cousin behind me said, “It’s coming down. You can go now. Goodbye.” It was so disrespectful and so mean-spirited about something they knew in advance that they could not do.
Later when I went to see how the party was going, I saw lit candles in the middle of each table. Again, I had to pull the bride over and tell her that all of the candles needed to be put out. Thankfully, she cooperated with that right away. Finally, as it was approaching midnight, I went to see how the party was finishing up. I told the bride that she had 20 minutes and all of a sudden started yelling at me saying, “Why are you rushing us? You took away our decorations and our candles, this is not right! I am going to call the Director on you!” I told her that everything I had mentioned to her was in the renter’s contract she had signed but clearly she was in no mood to listen to reason. To my surprise, the part was out around 12:15am, only 15 minutes past when they needed to be.
